Mental Health Consultation
If you’re a therapist who wants to feel more confident, competent, and creative in your work, especially with clients in diverse relationships (like LGBTQ+, non-monogamous, and kinky relationships), I offer individual and group supervision and consultation. You’ll have the opportunity to bring your real cases, get detailed feedback, learn effective interventions, and receive clinical direction from a Ph.D.-level expert in couples therapy, sexuality, trauma-informed care, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, kink-affirming therapy, infidelity, and non-monogamous relationships.
Consensual Non-Monogamy (CNM):
Here’s the reality: more of your clients have experience with CNM than you might think. In a 2022 YouGov poll of 1,100 U.S. residents, 25% reported that their ideal relationship was some form of non-monogamy. Lifetime experience rates are consistently in the 20–25% range, and I’ve found the same in my own research. This is not a niche issue—it’s a significant part of the relationship landscape your clients are navigating.
Yet, for many people, exploring non-traditional relationships is a lifelong process of authenticity, self-discovery, and learning. They may have spent years suppressing these desires because the world models “healthy” relationships almost exclusively as monogamous and closed. This can lead to maladaptive coping patterns—infidelity, compulsive shopping, substance use, eating disorders, emotional numbing, isolation, anxiety, depression, or a pervasive sense of emptiness. Without skills, information, role models, and support, growth stalls. Communication, boundary-setting, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution become reactive or cyclical—spinning in place without resolving core issues.
Diverse Clients:
The question is: how prepared are you to meet these clients where they are? If you don’t share these identities, or haven’t sought out targeted training, it’s not your fault. Traditional education rarely provides the tools for working with CNM, kink, gender variance, or non-heterosexual identities. But that gap will affect your work if you’re not intentional about closing it.
Through supervision and consultation, you’ll learn how to:
- Navigate conversations about CNM, kink, and sexual and gender diversity with confidence and cultural humility.
- Spot and avoid subtle microaggressions that can rupture trust.
- Understand systemic influences on stigma, shame, and isolation.
- Offer informed, affirming, and non-judgmental care—even while assessing fit and scope of practice.
- Integrate these competencies into assessment, treatment planning, and intervention.
Your clients deserve a therapist who can engage fully with the breadth of human experience. And you deserve to feel equipped, not hesitant, when those moments arrive in the therapy room. Let’s work together to expand your skills, increase your confidence, and ensure that your practice reflects the inclusivity and depth your clients need.
